‘William Hogarth and His Times’ Angie Smith Thursday 09 August 2018

These lectures will be a survey of Hogarth’s life and career, from early ephemera to his engravings as a mature artist, set against his historical background, the social and political context in which he worked in London  in the first half of the 18th century, and his friends and acquaintances, including the composer Handel, Thomas Coram and David Garrick.

As in December, the Special Interest Day will consist of two morning lectures with coffee in between and lunch afterwards.  We would appreciate your reaction to this switch from 3 to a 2-lecture day.
